Lunch At Q39 Midtown KCMO

When you are in the town of Kansas City you are in REAL Bar B Que country.  About two weeks ago we decided to have a lunch outing with several staff members.  Of course we were going to get BBQ but one of our employees suggested we go to Q39.  We had heard of it before so decided to give it a try.  The Kansas City Midtown location is at 1000 W 39th Street in Kansas City, MO.  If you need to give them a call, they can be reached at (816) 255-3753.  They are open every day from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm with a bit longer hours on Friday and Saturday, and on Sunday they close at 9:00 pm. There is also another location in Overland Park but that was a bit out of the way for us.  From our office it took us about 10 minutes by car.  It was surprising close.  This is how we got there.

The first thing that we noticed when we got there was that it was not a posh luxury restaurant.  It had a bar and lots of tables that sat close together without candles or privacy.  Just lots of people enjoying food!  This indeed was our kind of place.  The smell when we got close to the restaurant and then inside was that wonderful smell of smoked food.  Definitely a great smell that brought back wonderful great mouth-watering memories of other smoke house restaurants we had been to.  Needless to say the place was busy and crowded which is always kind of a mixed blessing because it means that lots of people love to eat here but there may be a wait to get seated.  In our case there was under a ten minute wait which was perfect.

After we got seated and got the menu my mouth was already salivating with the thoughts of wonderful BBQ.  Of course like many Kansas City folk, when you say great BBQ many people are thinking about burnt ends.  In case you do not know what that is then you just have to experience it for yourself and I am pretty sure that you will be hooked as it has incredible flavor.  The menu also showed a few things different than some of the other local BBQ joints as salmon for all you pescatarians (LOL seriously?) and delicious looking steaks cooked over wood burning fires.  None of us got the steaks but it is on my wish list for another time.  There were also obligatory salads for those wanting a healthy addition to their meal but today it was all about the decadence of pure high protein meat for all of us.

I ended up getting the burnt end burger while others in our group got the Q burger, the Triple Threat and the Mr Burns.  We got the Wings as an appetizer, which while they were indeed yummy, cost $10.00 for six wing pieces which was our only disappointment in the whole trip as we felt they were truly overpriced.  Anyway, moving on the food was incredible.  We can certainly see why this is in the list of two or three of the top smoked meat places in the city.  Everyone was more than satisfied and we will definitely return at a later date and report good things about the food we ate here to our family and friends.

We have some other great articles we would like to share about places we like and visited in Kansas City.  Please check them out here:
